My fiance and I have just returned from a 2 week room only stay at Long Bay Beach Resort Tortola. On arrival at Beef Island airport we were picked up by a taxi sent by the resort. Be aware this was not a courtesy trip and cost $45 dollars. At the resort we were given a rum cocktail as an arrival drink and were informed that we had been upgraded to a beach front cabana. If you visit this resort and the Island during August be advised it is out of season. On one hand this is a bonus as it is very quite but on the other hand some restaurants and companies offering excursions are closed. The restaurant at the resort offered an a la carte menu and the standard of food was high, however at this time of year the menu was not varied. We hired a car from the resort for 5 days, this is a must and allows you to explore the Island and is much cheaper than a taxi. The air con in our room was faulty and after numerous attempts by the maintenance staff to repair it we were again upgraded, this time to a luxury beach front cabana for our second week. We also visited Virgin Gorda by catching a ferry from Road Town, this was fast and at least $140 dollars cheaper than the day trip organised by the resort. The staff at the resort were very freindly and helpfull as were the local population, however the mosquito is not forgiving. The resort and Island was everything we expected and it really does pay to be polite and understanding towards the Caribbean way of life. "NO PROBLEM MON"
